New York State of Mind

I had a blast in NYC over the weekend for Beautycon, and of course did not forget that a new blog post was very necessary! Saturday night turned out to be beautiful and great for a lovely dinner out! My initial thoughts were what outfit will I wear? Being in the big apple, my New York state of mind kicked in, and I knew exactly what to wear!

I paired an adorable open back floral blouse with bold and vibrant colors with my favorite black pants. I wore these in a lot of my winter blog posts, but I found that they work great on warmer nights too! They are high waisted and are not as heavy as normal dress pants are! I threw on some sandals that I brought and added a leather jacket just in case it became a bit chilly. My hair was already curled from Beautycon that day, but I touched up my makeup and added a nude gloss and some pretty lilac/nude eyeshadow!

This look is lovely! It fit the night perfectly and the urban, city feel! Lose the jacket, add a pair of heels, and it could work for another night out! Switch the jacket, and you can make it more formal with a blazer! Dress it up or down!

Try this look for the warmer summer nights that will hopefully be approaching! You will look drop dead gorgeous! Until next time!

This weekend was full of fun and surprises at Beautycon NYC! I had an absolute blast meeting my fave Youtube beauty gurus and seeing so many different vendors! Walking in, I was able to see the beautiful Whitney Port! Being so starstruck I could not believe it! She is even more tall and gorgeous in person! Inside, Tarte, Bare Minerals, American Apparel, and more had booths set up! Most of the products were discounted, which made me splurge!

I still cannot believe I met some of my fave gals including Carli Bybel and Meg of ciaobellaxo! Definitely check out their youtube channels!

This weekend taught me that being a fashion and beauty blogger is truly my passion, and I am so so blessed to be able to do it and have the support of all of you who read and keep up to date with it all! Hopefully a Youtube channel will be in my future, but  for now always keep up to date with me at Navy and Lace! I could not be more humble and thankful for the fantastic experience I had this weekend!! Below are some pics of the weekend! Enjoy!

Stars and Stripes

Memorial day is coming up, so why not show a little patriotism?! I wasn’t technically trying to, but when a lady approached me and asked if I was gearing up for next weekend, I thought why not?!

This outfit can be worn on any day of course! I am wearing a pair of star patterned jeans! They can either be worn as regular skinnies or capri’s! I paired a light, white sleeveless blouse and some cute flat sandals! The hair was just worn simply straight today, along with some classic Rayban aviators!

Today was fairly warm, but this outfit was perfect! Never once did I feel too overheated or blah! I felt put together, and the pattered pants added a nice touch to a simple look!

I want to see your best patriotic look! Whether it’s for a holiday or everyday, show your love for your country in a stylish and affordable way!

Met Gala 2014

The Met Gala was last night, and I could not help but obsess over some of the gorgeous dresses of the night. I do have to say, this year was a great year for fashion at the Met Gala! Below are some of my favorite styles of the night!

Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrating Charles James: Beyond Fashion, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, America - 05 May 2014 images Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrating Charles James: Beyond Fashion, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, America - 05 May 2014 2014 Anna Wintour Costume Center Gala Benefit wpid-kendall-jenner-met-ball-2014-05_1-700x927 Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrating Charles James: Beyond Fashion, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, America - 05 May 2014 72b22ac1-3780-4567-b488-4b1cc280cf36-343x480

Beginning from the top (left to right), Hailee Steinfeld shined in this Prabal Gurung gown. I personally adore the cut and fit! It makes her look very mature. Blake Lively took a very different approach in this beautiful blush gown, with a hint of sparkle. She was wearing Gucci! Georgia May Jagger took a sexy approach in Mugler by David Koma. She showed the perfect amount of skin in this classic black dress. Emma Stone went pretty in pink in her Thakoon pink ensemble, which appears to be two separate pieces. Either way the color and cut was perfection on the gorgeous red head! The Kardashian/Jenner sisters both shined this year! Kendall Jenner was there representing Topshop with her gorgeous pale pink silk mermaid dress, while Kim made improvements from last year in her Lanvin gown. The color is gorgeous on Kim, and definitely adds a classic touch! She is on the right track! Finally, Sarah Jessica Parker can do no wrong! She sported a lovely Oscar de la Renta gown, with the name sewn on the bottom. She is a fashion icon and can do no wrong at the Met Gala. She looked absolutely stunning!

These gowns and ladies were absolutely lovely! I cannot wait to see next years batch of gowns! Hope this also gave some inspiration for prom season! Until next time!

Prom is just around the corner for many of you pretty ladies, and it is key that you put your best foot forward and prepare for the amazing day! The dress is obviously your duty, but I am here to give you tips and tricks for beauty and hair for the big day! Whether you are doing it yourself or getting it done, these will come in handy for prom or any other formal occasion!

Makeup is key for prom! If you want to self tan, please be my guest and do so, but just know that that is not a replacement for your makeup. Tip number one if you self tan: do not self tan your face! The skin on your face tends to be very sensitive, and this could cause breakouts and just look too unnatural. That is where foundation comes in! Everyone should consider wearing some sort of coverage for prom! Whether it’s a foundation or CC/BB cream, the coverage will give you a flawless appearance and help against any oil or shine! (And if you are really bold, try contouring; it will look amazing in photos!)

Eye makeup is a no brainer, but many don’t even bother thinking about doing lashes! False lashes can look very beautiful and add a nice touch to a gorgeous look! I recommend cutting the falsies to the natural shape of your eye or just placing them at the outer corners! This creates a more natural and long lash look, without being overwhelming or heavy on the eye!

Don’t forget to also choose a beautiful lip color! Whether it’s sheer or bold, try to invest in something that will really make your look pop, and that you could wear again!

**For short dress gals: Sally Hanson has a spray on leg makeup made to help cover up any bruising or scars on your legs! Just make sure you rub it in very well and take time to let it dry! DON’T GET IT ON YOUR DRESS!

Hair is also a very crucial part to any prom look! To make it last all day, make sure to use a great hairspray! My go to is the Loreal Elnett! This helps keep my curls in all day, leaving them soft and touchable! Also don’t be afraid to accessorize with your hair! Hair clips and pins are a perfect way to add a little sparkle without going over board!

I hope this helped all of you prom goers this season! My previous beauty and favorites post listed a number of products I use and love, if you’d like to try them! Have an amazing 2014 prom! I know you all will look beautiful.

*Below are some of my favorite prom makeup and hair looks! (Casey Holmes and Nicole Guerriero are the main beauties below! Check them out on Youtube!)

**P.S. If you can’t tell, I am a lover of leaving the hair down for prom! Looks very glamorous!
