In the midst of midterms, I find myself styling outfits better than regular days when I am not under the stress and pressure. Weird, right? I sure think so. However, when I think about it, it makes sense. Fashion and style is an outlet for me. In the times of major studying and stress, I find fashion as a release. I online shop more to relax, and put together more outfit combos in much shorter periods of time! Maybe I should take midterms more often… Not!
One of the outfits I magically put together in little time at all is this adorable sweater and blouse overlay. I’ve been dying to try this out for a while! I am wearing a cream, wool sweater with button shoulder detailing. I then layered a citrus green sleeveless blouse with ruffle collar and bow tie in the front. When layering, I made sure to pull the entire collar out for exposure and adjusted the bow to sit just right on the front, since it’s a crew neck sweater not a V-neck sweater. I paired this with my favorite dark, stretch jeggings and a pair of my new camel suede booties. To add a little sparkle, I wore an adorable jeweled headband and finished the entire look with a quilted, two-toned leather tote with a chain handle.
I absolutely adore this outfit! Layering is a perfect way to change up how you wear an item. Many people wouldn’t think to layer a blouse of such a prominent color and collar with such a simple, basic sweater. It’s an outfit you can wear out everyday or even to work! Just remember, as long as you feel confident, then that is all that matters!

Like many other girls, I have a J-Crew obsession. Their timeless, elegant pieces are worth being recognized and worn by every beautiful woman. I rarely wear their pieces together, but when I do, it is worth documenting! Throw together a couple of their classic pieces, and you too can feel classy without losing your sassiness.
I am wearing a red, cotton blouse with a “flannel pattern” as I like to call it. The blouse is very light and not heavy like a flannel, which is great for days when you want the flannel look, but not the flannel feel. I paired it with a simple, light gray skirt, which has an elastic waist at the hips. Pair these with some black, opaque tights and brown riding boots, and you are almost ready! I wanted to tie in one of my favorite Leavitt and Co pieces also (as seen in my previous blog Fun with Color), so I am wearing the Babs Flower Necklace in turquoise. It adds a nice pop and contrast to the blouse, pulling out the hints of blue in the stripes. I also added a romantic touch with my coral lips, making it girly with some sass.
Although J-Crew is pricey for most people, I completely understand. I can’t afford their pieces at regular price. So, my trick? Hit the sales! J-Crew, like other high end stores, have fantastic sales. I got this blouse and another short the other day for a great deal! They were giving an additional 50% off all their already marked down sale items! It was fantastic! They also give discounts to students! So, if you are a “broke” college student, have no fear! You can find a way!
So try a semi-preppy, classic look! You will be surprised at how easy it is to combine easy, timeless pieces and make a fabulous outfit!

Dressing preppy doesn’t always mean wear J crew and polo shirts. You can look preppy and feel classic and edgy at the same time. My outfit consists of some staple pieces that should be in every girls wardrobe!
I started by pairing some of my favorites dark wash skinny jeans with a jean blouse layered with a soft knit sweater. I specifically chose one with a cute, sassy logo, but you can always choose one that’s a solid color or has stripes. Layering these two pieces took some time to adjust, but I finally set them in a place that was comfortable on my body. I paired this look with a classy beaded necklace that included colors that complimented the rest of the neutral tones. If you do not have a beaded necklace, a big, chunky jeweled necklace would look just as fabulous. To finish off the look, I wore my chestnut, loafer flats with little gold studs along with my red peacoat. This pop of color brought the entire look together, adding a little spice. Of course this look can be rearranged to your liking, but these items are key to anyone’s closet in creating a simple easy look!
